Wrap-Up

Summary

Let's recap what you have done in this lesson. You have learned how to name the simple alkenes, polymers, alkynes, and aromatic compounds if you were given the structural formula of the compound. You should also be able to write down the structural formula of any one of these compounds if you were given the IUPAC name for that compound. You have also learned about the IR spectra and chemical reactions of some of these compounds. You have used lab tests to determine the presence of double bonds. In addition, you have learned about hybridization, the way that electrons change their distribution patterns to form bonds to other atoms, and the terminology associated with both the patterns and the bonds.

Be sure that you have completed your lab observations and have written them down in your report along with answers to the question there (including those about infrared spectra).
